Fresno, California is the 6th largest city in the state with an official Census Bureau estimated population of 481,035 as of July 1, 2006.
Located in the heart of the agriculturally rich San Joaquin valley . . . Fresno is near the geographical centre of California and a comfortable drive to many of the of the states major recreation areas: Millerton Lake, Bass Lake, Pine Flat Lake many with marinas. Yosemite National Park, Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park are all within easy access. Fresno has three large public parks, two located within the city limits and another to the southwest. Woodward Park, which features the Shinzen Japanese Gardens, numerous picnic areas and several miles of trails, is located in North Fresno and is adjacent to the San Joaquin River Parkway. Roeding Park, located near the famous Tower District in central Fresno.
Fresno, is home to the Fresno Grizzlies baseball team, Chaffee Zoological Gardens, and Rotary Playland and Storyland. Kearney Park is the largest of the Fresno regional parks and is home to historic Kearney Mansion that hosts the annual Civil War Revisited which is the largest reenactment of the Civil War on the west coast.
